I am me

Friday, April 20th, 2007

Is it better fitting in or
Is it better standing out?

They cannot change me;
My will is too strong.
A stranger in a strange land.
Losing self makes land no less strange.
Losing self makes them no less strange.
I will be me.
I must be me.

Only me.

I found this poem on an old scrap of paper. I must’ve written it years ago. I can’t even remember why I wrote it now. The reasons can’t have been that important.

A Modest Proposal

According to Linden Lab:

“We plan to implement features that will enable Residents to optionally confirm aspects of each other’s identity, including age and jurisdictions.”

The way I’d prefer the identity verification system (and the current “payment info on file”) is that this data should never leave the server.

Phising for monies and vermins

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

Well today I drove all around buffalo doing ‘responsible’ stuff with my roomie. He had a counselling appointment, a friend needed a ride to his nutritionist and I needed to transfer money from one bank account to another. Also had to do a drug test for some possible job.
Dropped my roomie off, drove to get the furry friend. Dropped him off then went to the bank. Transferred the money, chit chatted with teh teller about how i got canned for leaving early the day my friend was in the hospital dieing. (yeah, such fun. He was another roomie and.. did die a few days later)

I’ve been looking for work for a month and a half. I now have 6 different agencies trying to find me something but the local economy is such crap the, feh, lousy wage i’m asking for is too much for most places I’m guessing. (I’m looking for a full time job at 10/hr USD)

Things are gettin pretty tense for me. I’ll have to take most of it on myself and my roomy is still dealing with grief so… he’s resistant to getting stuff that will take the pressure off done.
Right now I’m DJing at the Furry Vermin sim in SL. It’s the main bright spot in my life because I succeeded at procreating something special, something beyond myself and a place alot of people enjoy, respect and cherish along with me. I haven’t been there alot lately as I’ve been having to focus on myself but.. I’m not gone totally either :)
My Wednesday shows have been sparse at the start ever since I changed from 7pm SLT to start. They used to be my biggest shows but the time swap has thrown most people off and the time zone puts prime time (show start) in the middle of the ocean :D
Not a big deal though. Have to keep this shift for when I work, so.

Oh Happy Day

The skyscraper is gone. 60+ metres tall with several dozen outsize prims and more retail space in a tight area than you can shake a stick at (can you say “lag”? I knew you could).

The club is gone. 20 camping chairs and the sim filled to capacity every other day.

My store is once again in a low-lag sim, despite never having moved an inch. Proof that, since the vast majority of SL enterprises are based on hot air, they collapse as soon as the maker realises that there’s no income in there.

Despite the slow sales - hey come on, you know you want a Tudor style house that fits on a 512m plot - my business model is sound, and I will not be closing up shop again. I do have some mid-term plans to move to another sim, possibly an island, but that isn’t yet definite. It’s just idle speculation.
