Yes, I guess it is true that I knowingly lied to the system. But by immediately contacting LL afterwards to report the false positive, I believe I am exonerated. I was simply testing the system for them, and I would gleefully return back to unverified status if only the system would let me.

But think about it. People are going to try to game this system, and lie to it. Especially those who should be blocked by it. A person who would normally be allowed through has no reason to lie. A person who should be blocked has every reason to lie. And if it can’t stop dishonest people, it isn’t working any better than a “I am over 18″ click-through button.

Well I believe that the onus is on you, you knowingly lied to the age verification system and this will not hold up for you in a court of law (if you where 16, say)..

*Some* level of trust in this sytem is required — sure it’s not foolproof, but then very little is.

As far as I can tell, the problem is not the kids, really.
The problem is the adults trying to protect the kids.

Kids are supposed to be, like, pure and perfect and all, which they aren’t, but we want to believe they are, so we try to “protect” them.

And then they get guns.

Of course Forbes was talking to the corporates. You wouldn’t find Forbes in anyone else’s hands.

As to Ginko - well, the fact that the whole thing collapsed and nothing was *done*, well - that is the real issue. Ginko is just one of many things. However, as I have been covering, the community is trying to address these things through transparency. You could say that people don’t have a right to expect more - but - everyone always expects more. If we didn’t, we wouldn’t be able to have this discussion.

Don’t worry about fighting the corporate hype cycle. We know that they don’t get it, and by the time they do - they still won’t. Lets just make the place better.

Jake, if LL says you don’t really own the land you purchase, I’d say that flies in the face of the promotional material on the front page of their website, as it directly contradicts the text that is everpresent - “Own virtual land”. if they seriously pursue that avenue, then LL opens itself up to an even stronger case of false advertising.
